Where: Madagascar (14.6° S, 48.2° E: paleocoordinates 45.2° S, 39.9° E)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Nammalian (252.2 - 247.2 Ma)
• Stage: Nammalian = Induan = Olenekian = Smithian = Dienerian
• group-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: lagoonal; black, gray, sandy shale
•The lower and middle part of the Sakamena section is a black argillaceous shale which contains nodules and a few thin sandstone beds. Above an unexposed interval a grey sandy shale occurs immediately below the Isalo sandstone.
•Deposition of the Sakamena shale occurred probably in a lagoonal or tidal flat environment.
