H-1. near road entering east end of Crossman Quarry, north of Whitehall Village (Cambrian of the United States)

Also known as USGS 7602-CO. Was Saukia serotina subzone, Whitehall Fm.

Where: Washington County, New York (42.6° N, 73.4° W: paleocoordinates 32.9° S, 74.6° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Saukiella serotina trilobite zone, Lower Member (Whitehall Formation), Sunwaptan (493.5 - 487.5 Ma)

• "Lower Whitehall Fm., (Trempealeau)->Franconian?, Saukia-Serotina subzone"

•Saukiella serotina subzone: 490.4 - 490.0 Ma, very top of Sunwaptan

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; ooidal grainstone

• "stromatolitic, oolitic, etc. ls. Nearshore subtidal, (very shallow subtidal) ocean facing shelf (of unknown width) BA1-2."
• "The lower part of the Whitehall contains domal sltromatolites, thrombolites, and lime grainstones interpreted to have formed in supratidal, intertidal, and shallow-subtidal marine environments. The vagile epibenthic fauna probably occupied warm-water, nearshore, shallow-subtidal habitats characterized by sustained moderate to high turbulence. Some limestone beds contain length-slow chalcedony which is thought to be an indicator of general hypersalinity or widely fluctuating salinity conditions in the environment of deposition. "

•Sample composed of light- to medium-gray (N 5-7) ooid-skeletal grainstone.

Size class: macrofossils
