Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal limestone and marl

• Biohermal and biostromal deposits. H.L. facies includes crinoidal limestone and organodetrital limestone of the reef periphery, volcaniclastics (tuff, tuffite). These facies are stratigraphically above a sequence that goes from graptolitic shales in the Budnanian, through volcaniclastics with some limestone lenses in the Lochkovian, to bituminous limestone nodules within shales in the lowest Pragian, to the crinoidal/reefal limestone facies of the lower H.L. Limestone (see fig. 54).
