Post-Quadrithyris Zone Brachiopods, Bathurst Is., Section 33, GSC loc. 67145 (Devonian of Canada)

Where: Nunavut, Canada (76.0° N, 98.0° W: paleocoordinates 5.0° S, 23.7° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Stuart Bay Formation, Pragian (410.8 - 407.6 Ma)

• Age of faunas discussed at length in this paper. This collection comes from above the collections that are interpreted as correlative with Quadrithyris Zone of Nevada, and of Late Lochkovian age. "The age of this collection is probably Pragian, based on the presence of Werneckeella, large specimens of Cortezorthis, and the presence of Muriferella and Phragmostrophia. Eighty-five feet higher in the section, the Stuart Bay Formation is overlain unconformably by the Disappointment Bay Forrmation...of Zlichovian or probably late Emsian age."

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; limestone

• SEP: this is a tough one. The unit is definitely clastic dominated and contains only minor carbonate away from the reefs. This environment is probably above normal wave base, relatively near a sed source but sufficiently far out in the cratonic basin to be relatively starved of clastic sediments, which are probably transported into basin primarily during storms. it is also likely to be part of the TST; for all of these reasons, I have assigned it a lower shorface DEPTH.
• Lithology not described. Columnar section indicates that collection is from limestone.

Preservation: replaced with silica

Reposited in the GSC
