Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, phosphatic, pyritic, gray sandstone and lithified, phosphatic, pyritic, gray siltstone

• The sediments of the Portixeddu Formation show typical characteristics of the inner shelf

•environment not far below the normal wave base, being more littoral in the basal part and

•more offshore in the uppermost part. (From Leone et al. 1998).

• The formation consists mainly of richly fossiliferous dark-grey very fine sandstones,

•siltstones and shales, sometimes bearing pyritic and phosphatic nodules quite abundant in the upperpart. (From Leone et al. 1998).
