Environment/lithology: marine; shale and fine-grained, medium sandstone

• The Bergleshof Formation (Horstig, 1954; Sdzuy, 1966; Geyer & Wiefel, 1997) consists of a variable succession of slaty shales and fine- and medium-grained sandstones. The typical succession includes an alternation of medium-grey to dark and bluish grey, slaty siltstones and grey, greenish or grey brown, slightly calcareous, poorly sorted sandstones. The sandstones are generally lenticular or form flaser-shaped bodies in the siltstones.
