Osztramos locality 7 (Pliocene of Hungary)

Also known as Osztramos 7, Osztramos Hill

Where: Borsodabaujzemplen, Hungary (48.5° N, 20.8° E: paleocoordinates 48.4° N, 20.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Villanyian (3.2 - 2.6 Ma)

• Mid Pliocene, MN16, Villafranchian.

Environment/lithology: fissure fill

• Locality 7 is a 'classical' tectonic fissure.
• 'This crevice was about 1-1.5m wide and as high as 30m. The upper part of the karstic formation was filled with dark red clay, the lower with more yellowish clay, occasionally cemented with calcite spots.'

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: bulk,

• Although layers were observed in the deposits, 'commercial quarrying and the narrow width of the cleft' meant that collection by layer was not possible. It was excavated from1955 to 1975.
