Evans Peak (Carboniferous to of the United States)

Where: Colorado (38.3° N, 106.3° W: paleocoordinates 0.0° S, 37.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: "Weber" Formation, Bashkirian to Bashkirian (323.2 - 298.9 Ma)

• The names "Weber shales" and "Weber grits" were rejected by USGS

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; micaceous sandstone and micaceous shale

• the formation comprises a lower thin shaly division and a much thicker upper sandy and conglomeratic division, the two aggregating 1,000ft in the Leadville distict, but thickening to 2,800ft in adjacent regions. These are often spoken of as the "Weber shales" and "Weber grits". Thin beds of limestones containing invertebrates occur at several horizons. Both the shales and sandstones are highly micaceous.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
