•"In the Meadow Branch syncline, West Virginia and Mayland, it has already been indicated that there is a question regarding the correlationof the units assigned in the past to the Pocono Formation (Stose and Swartz, 1912) The rock sequence, as preveously described, is as follows: (desending order) Pinkerton Ss, 125 feet; Myers shale (red), 800-1200 feet; Hedges shale (coal bearing), 200 feet; Purslane sandstone, 320 feet; and Rock well formation, 500 feet. The coal-bearing Hedges shale contains a flora .... of the Triphyllopteris zone, wides spread in the upper part of the Pocono" Read (1955), p. 10.
