• Early Miocene, MN2, Agenian, Xiejian. From the Middle part of the Shawan Formation (the so-called brown beds), thick continental deposits, widely distributed along the north slope of the Tianshan Mountains.

• The 'Lophomeryx specimen is so high-crowned and progressive that its identification should be considered tentative. A new genus is likely to be established for it.' The Dzungarotherium specimen is huge 'probably the largest giant rhinoceros ever found.'
