Tazareh Section, Alburz Mts, Storm dominated shelf fazies 1 (Jurassic to of Iran)

Where: Iran (36.4° N, 54.5° E: paleocoordinates 13.6° S, 47.7° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Shemshak Formation, Middle Toarcian to Middle Toarcian (182.0 - 175.6 Ma)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; poorly lithified, bioturbated, fine-grained, silty sandstone and argillaceous siltstone

• Storm dominated shelf environment; Altogether, the facies associations discussed here are interpreted as having been deposited on a middle siliciclastic shelf, sandwiched between sediments of the inner and outer shelf
• Bioturbated silty fine-grained sand, more rarely argillaceous silt, usually with abundant comminuted plant debris, common wood fragments, scattered small ferruginous concretions, and silty fine-grained sandstone nodules

Size class: macrofossils
