Nanzheng Formation, NZ4 Bed, Liangshan (Ordovician of China)

Where: Shaanxi, China (35.0° N, 108.0° E: paleocoordinates 26.7° S, 121.1° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

When: Unit 3 Member (Nanzheng Formation), Wufeng (449.5 - 443.7 Ma)

• Listed as Wufengian Age

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; poorly lithified, gray shale

• Formation considered an equivalent to Wufeng Formation. Xiao et al. (1996) (from GEOREF) gives a general Wufeng analysis of depositional environments: notes Wufeng Shale and Guanyingquiao Members are condensed and maximum flooding sections, respectively within a "deep sea basin environment" bordered by carbonate platform rimmed with "keep-up" reefs
• Gray, clayey and alumina-rich shale

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: 28 cm thick section; pooled samples
