Cesi pollen, Colfiorito Basin (Pleistocene of Italy)

Where: Italy (42.0° N, 12.7° E: paleocoordinates 42.0° N, 12.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Pleistocene (0.8 - 0.1 Ma)

• early Middle Pleistocene, samples taken from the 12m below the vert fossils. All taxa lumped in this reference, and a more specific description is in press (A. Bertini).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: poorly lithified, concretionary, ferruginous, calcareous claystone and poorly lithified, calcareous conglomerate

• clays in which Fe-Mn and CaCO3 concretions occur frequently, and locally also by this layers containing calcareous and siliceous gravels. The sedimentological analysis and the predominance of palynologically barren sediments suggest considerable weathering, both in the biostratinomic and in the diagenetic phases.

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: original sporopollenin
