Shaazangin Gobi [HMNS-GIN] (Cretaceous of Mongolia)

Also known as Shaazangin Alag Tsav

Where: Dornogov, Mongolia (44.7° N, 107.9° E: paleocoordinates 45.9° N, 109.9° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Shinkhuduk Formation, Neocomian (145.0 - 125.8 Ma)

• The Shinkhuduk Suite in Alag Tsav area consists of shale, paper shale, calcareous shale (marl), and fine-and coarse-grained sandstone. Mudstone (shale) is the dominant lithology among them. There is a series of outcrops of the Shinkhuduk Suite (paper shale, mudstone, sandstone) in the area 4-5km NE of the base camp (Fig. 6; Plate 2).

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; mudstone

• We opened three quarries and excavated in shale and paper shale for fossil searching

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: adpression
