• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: La Ollita Formation, Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• Under review is the definition stratigraphic of the La Ollita Formation. This name "La Ollita" has been used with different meanings, it is convenient to use the term informal "Serie del Yeso".

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; lithified shale and lithified gypsum

• Sedimentological characteristics of the upper section of the "Series of Plaster", indicate the development of lagoon systems subject to successive events expansion and contraction.
• The lower section (A in the profile) of about 18m, is in tectonic contact with multicolored tuff and is made up off tuffs, tuffaceous sandstones, "coladas traquiandesiticas", volcanic breccias and conglomerates. Above 95 meters are arranged ortoconglomerates clast and matrix-supported, with lithic sandstones (section B). The middle section (section C) reaches about 115 meters and is composed of shale, lithic sandstones, gypsum levels intraformational conglomerates. Section D (45m) contains greater presence of gypsum, with some shale, marl and limestone. The upper section E of 35 meters, is characterized by alternating of shale and gypsum layers, in this last section comes palynological association described in this study.
