STRI Loc. 290042 - near Uipta [Uipta Fm] (Miocene to of Colombia)

Also known as STRI Loc. 290410; STRI Sample 10345, 16839, 16845

Where: La Guajira, Colombia (12.0° N, 71.4° W: paleocoordinates 11.1° N, 67.8° W)

• coordinate based on unpublished field data

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Uipta Formation, Aquitanian to Aquitanian (23.0 - 16.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Uipta Formation, which unconformably overlies the Siamana Formation (late Oligocene-early Miocene) and is conformably overlain by the Jimol Formation (early-middle Miocene). AGE: Aquitanian-Burdigalian, on the basis of macrofaunal composition; direct age established by extrapolation of Sr-isotope dating by enterer. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From lower part of Uipta Fm, not far above top of Siamana Formation.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: basinal (); poorly lithified mudstone and poorly lithified sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow water fauna redeposited into deep water (tempestites).
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Poorly consolidated muddy with sandy intercalations. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified, as determined in the field and based on museum-reposited specimens.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original calcite, replaced with calcite
