Sant Pere dels Arquells (Oligocene of Spain)

Also known as Cervera, Bassin de l'Ebre

Where: Spain (41.6° N, 1.3° E: paleocoordinates 41.2° N, 1.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Calcàries de Tàrrega Formation, Early/Lower Oligocene (33.9 - 28.4 Ma)

• "Insects come from the upper part of the formation "calcàries Tàrrega" (lacustrine and palustrine) above the Member "The Panadella" and below the Member "El Talladell" (Saez, corn. Pers.) And between small mammal biozone Theridomys calafensis (type locality:Calai) and Theridomys major (type locality: Tàrrega) (CABRERA, corn. Pers.)."

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; shale

• "The active tectonics of the last two channels gives rise, during the Priabonian-Oligocene, the formation of large reliefs that cause development of alluvial fans. These cones, conglomeratic to watershed boundaries, are gradually switching to deposits lake in the center (Puigdefabregas et al., 1986). It is in this latter type of deposits that are insects are discussed below. From the base of the Oligocene to the late Neogene, the Ebro basin has worked like a bowl with a endorheic sedimentation and filling by deposition Continental (CABRERA & SAEZ, 1987)."

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: adpression

Collection methods: quarrying, surface (float)

• "Insects have not been found "in situ", but in the debris of a small quarry underway operating."
