Cocoplum Waterway [Cocoplum Mbr, Bayshore Fm] (Miocene of the United States)

Where: Florida (27.0° N, 82.2° W: paleocoordinates 27.2° N, 80.3° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: Cocoplum Member (Bayshore Formation), Tortonian (11.6 - 7.2 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Cocoplum Mbr of the Bayshore Fm, Hawthorn Grp, which is overlain by the Port Charlotte Mbr of the Bayshore Fm. Correlative with the Eastover Fm. THICKNESS: Averages about 1.5 m across areal extent. AGE: Late Miocene. Based on macrofossil biostratigraphy the unit is throught to represent the late Tortonian. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Checklist representative of entire member.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; poorly lithified, phosphatic, brown, silty, sandy dolomite

• ENVIRONMENT: carbonate lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal environment; shallow sand-bottom lagoons and oyster banks.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Sandy dolosilts and thick sandy dolomite, orange or tan-buff, containing variable amounts of phosphorite. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithified, based on figured specimens.
