When: Upper Shaly Member (Chochal Formation), Kungurian (279.3 - 272.3 Ma)

• Ammonoid, fusulinid, and brachiopod correlations suggest similarity to "Leonard" of West Texas, specifically Skinner Ranch, Cathedral Mountain, and Road Canyon (Artinskian-Roadian). Collected from a limestone lens in the lower part of the shaly beds, within the first 20 m above the main body of the Chochal Formation.

Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal, black, gray, silty limestone

• Lithology description reminiscent of slope lithologies of Road Canyon Formation.
• Consists primarily of thin-bedded, dark gray to black calcilutite but occasional thicker beds contain significant amounts of bioclastic debris and quartz silt though they are still very dark in color. Strongly deformed and often tightly folded.

• Several hundred pounds of limestone collected from both localities. Also includes verbeekinid fusulinids, trilobites, durhaminid and lophophyllid corals, ammonites, Mizzia, fish teeth, and fragments of vascular plants. It is not specified which of the two localities (USNM9257 or 9258) these occur at. Only brachiopods are listed.
