Punta Canoa (Pleistocene of Ecuador)

Where: Ecuador (1.2° S, 80.9° W: paleocoordinates 1.2° S, 80.7° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.0 Ma)

• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From an unnamed lithostratigraphic unit, which overlies the Pliocene Canoa Formation. AGE: Authors state that the presence of certain extinct species suggest that a Pliocene age is more likely than a Pleistocene age. STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From an unknown part of the succession.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shoreface; unlithified siliciclastic sediments

• ENVIRONMENT: Common beach species.
• LITHOLOGY: Unknown, but presumably siliciclastic.

Size class: macrofossils
