When: Coconi Beds Member, Early/Lower Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.8 Ma)

• Early Pleistocene, about 1Ma. The fauna was recovered from a borehole 425m deep. The rodent remains were found with molluscs at 247m depth, from a layer of clay with herbaceous phytoclasts. Coconi Beds = 'Marly complex'.

Environment/lithology:

• 'a sequence of 27 depositional halfcycles, each halfcycle consisting (from bottom to top) of fine sands, clays and grey clays, followed by yellowish grey or variegated clays. There is an equilibrated portion between the sandy and clayey lithologic terms.' p. 121.
