Where: Italy (44.8° N, 10.0° E: paleocoordinates 44.5° N, 10.4° E)
When: Lugagnano Formation, Zanclean (5.3 - 3.6 Ma)
• VERBATIM STRATIGRAPHY: A hydrocarbon seep complex of late Pliocene age has been recently described in detail from strata of the Argille Azzurre (Lugagnano Formation). Discrete hydrocarbon-imprinted carbonate bodies of different thick- ness and degree of lithification and host muddy sediment punctuate the Stirone section at the Zanclean/Piacenzian boundary.
Environment/lithology: deep-water; poorly lithified mudstone
Size class: macrofossils
Preservation: mold/impression
Collection methods: surface (in situ),
• REPOSITORY: Museo Geologico Giovanni Capellini, University of Bologna, Italy, Museo Civico di Scienze Naturali, Faenza, Italy, Zoological Museum, University of Bologna, Italy. COLLECTOR: The material was collected by the authors and co-workers over many years since 1997.
