G2, Macunkoy (Eocene of Turkey)

Where: Turkey (39.7° N, 32.3° E: paleocoordinates 32.5° N, 30.2° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kirkkavak Formation, Ypresian (56.0 - 47.8 Ma)

• Uppermost fine-grained siliciclastic units of the Kirkkavak Formation. In the northwest margin of the basin (Sakarya section), the upper units ... are correlated with the Early Ilerdian (Pujalte et al. 2009a, b), based on benthic foraminifers of SBZ5-6 (i.e. lowermost Ypresian).

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: estuary or bay; siltstone

• In conclusion, the composition of the euryhaline fauna, consistently with sedimentological data, indicate a wet coastal ecosystem with mangroves, probably connected to coastal swamps and a delta system.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the NHMW
