Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | lithified argillaceous "limestone" |
Secondary lithology: | calcareous "shale" |
Lithology description: The Wadleigh Limestone, named by Eberlein and Churkin (1970), is a medium- to thick-bedded “relatively pure, fossil-fragmental limestone,” with interbedded argillaceous limestone and calcareous shale in the lower part of the unit. The limestone is rich in corals, crinoid columnals, and the stromatoporoid Amphipora and contains less abundant brach-iopods, gastropods, bivalves, nautiloids, ammonoids, and ostracodes. The unit is inferred to represent patch reefs, reef breccia, and reef-peripheral deposits (Eberlein and Churkin, 1970). | |
