Geography
Country:Mongolia State/province:Övörkhangai Aymag County:Guchin Us
Coordinates: 42.5° North, 102.4° East (view map)
Paleocoordinates:43.0° North, 100.7° East
Basis of coordinate:based on nearby landmark
Geographic resolution:outcrop
Time
Period:Cretaceous Epoch:Early/Lower Cretaceous
Key time interval:Late/Upper Aptian - Early/Lower Albian
Age range of interval:122.46000 - 109.00000 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Dzunbain
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: "Lower Cretaceous (possibly Aptian)" and from the Khukhtekskaya Svita = Dzunbayn = Dzunbain Formation according to Dashzeveg 1975, but "? Aptian or Albian" according to Wible et al. 2001. Shown in column as "Khobur" beds (Shuvalov, 1974).

Alifanov 2019: assumed to belong to the Hühteeg Horizon without formal assignment to any formation identified in Mongolia and are dated either to the Aptian age including the Albian age (Shuvalov, 2000) or to the late Aptian age and the entire Albian age (Lucas, 2006). According to our preliminary data, the Hühteeg Horizon corresponds to the time interval that includes the late Aptian and early Albian ages.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:gray,yellow poorly lithified sandstone
Secondary lithology:red,blue claystone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: from illustrated section column in Shuvalov 1974: "unconsolidated and weakly cemented sandstones" from K & K 1974: "an alternation, sometimes rhythmic, of gray sandstones, yellowish sands, blue and reddish clays. The bones were found in interlayers of sandstones, sands, and silts."
Environment:lacustrine indet.

Collectors:P. Kozlov, P. Khosbayar, SMPE, SMGE, MAE Collection dates:1926; 1964; 1969–1972, 1991, 1997, 1999
Collection method comments: original collections consisted of "About seven tons of sediments... have been washed and screened" and the collection "is housed in the Palaeontological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences" under the charge of B. A. Trofimov
Taxonomic list comments:Dashzeveg reports that four taxa have been "named but not described" by Trofimov in Beliayeva et al. 1974: Gobioconodon borissiaki, Gobiodon infinitus, Prokennalestes kozlovi, and Prozalambdalestes simpsoni numerous later papers by Trofimov, Kielan-Jaworowska, Dashzeveg, and others report the remaining fauna.
Kalandadze & Kurzanov 1974 list "five new forms" of Lacertilia; these are certainly among those named later and not included in the list.
