Stratigraphy
Geological group:Montana Formation:Hell Creek
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Probable Laramie age (Hay, 1908, p. 233). As noted by Gaffney (1972) this horizon is most likely late Cretaceous. The shallow water marine Fox Hills Formation and the overlying Hell Creek Formation are exposed around Long Lake (Bluemle, 1977). Given that there are only a few vertebrate fossils known from the Fox Fills Formation and that the holotype is preserved much like fossils from the Hell Creek Formation, we are confident in constraining the provenance of this fossil to the Hell Creek Formation.
