Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | massive, planar lamination silty mudstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: (3) lagoonal laminated marls and mudstones with oysters and small fish remains, overlaid by massive mudstone beds on the top (middle Cenomanian, “Unit with Gyrostrea ouremensis”: 39 m). The turtle specimen studied here was found in the third (3) of these units, and collected from level 83 of the section (see Callapez et al., 2014, for level numbers), about 14 m below the lower upper Cenomanian beds with Neolobites vibrayeanus and the foraminifera Hemicyclammina sigali, Simplalveolina simplex and Thomasinella punica (Lauverjat, 1982; Hart et al., 2005) (Fig. 1D). It was found in 1996 by one of us (PMC) during the stratigraphic studies carried out in this area (Callapez, 1998) | |
