| Comments: A new representative of the suborder Toxodonta is described (Huilatherium pluriplicatum gen et sp. nov.) on the basis of a fragment of maxilar with M1-M2. From characteristics of the molars the new genus might be related to the Leontiniidae, although the amount of material is not enough for positive identification. The proposition of a new subfamily for Huilatherium that has been suggested by characteristics of the molars, is not possible for the former reason. The phylogenetic relations are also discussed together with paleobiogeography of Leontinids. | |
