Comments: The presence in the Honda Group of the crab Sylviocarcinus piriformis (Thchodactylidae) is established based on the morphology of the chelipeds, the number and position of the large teeth, and the position of the large tubercle on the outer surface of the moving finger. The bifid apex of the mobile finger is a diagnostic feature for the Trichodactylidae family. Currently Sylviocarcinus piriformis is found from sea level up to 350m high in three disjoint areas: the Maracaibo basin, the Cesar River valley (and the streams that descend from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta), and in the sector on the River Magdalena Valley between Puerto Boyacá and Gualanday River. The record of the species in the upper Magdalena Valley during the Middle Miocene when the rivers flowed to the east of the Eastern Cordillera suggest that the current disconnected geographic distribution corresponds to a relictual distribution interrupted by paleogeographic changes.
