Also known as TGL-A/2, Valley of Lakes

Where: Övörkhangai, Mongolia (45.4° N, 101.3° E: paleocoordinates 46.9° N, 98.8° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: A mammal zone, Hsanda Gol Formation, Early/Lower Oligocene (33.9 - 28.4 Ma)

• Biozone A sensu Höck et al. (1999, Mitt. Österr. Geol. Ges. 90, 83-125). Biozone A is capped by a Basalt layer that has been dated by means of 40Ar/39Ar method (see Höck et al., 1999).

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; red, silty mudstone

• The fines of the Hsanda Gol Fm. are interpreted as eolian dust and playa sediments, deposited on an arid plain (Höck et al., 1999).
• The Hsanda Gol Fm. mainly consists of "brick red" poorly sorted mudstones (Höck et al., 1999).
