Where: Cataluña, Spain (42.1° N, 0.9° E: paleocoordinates 32.5° N, 2.3° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Arén Formation, Late/Upper Campanian to Late/Upper Campanian (83.5 - 66.0 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal; red sandstone and limestone

• The northward-dipping grey sandstones of the Aren Forma- tion are capped with thick white lagoonal limestone of the Tremp Formation, overlain by a rudist-bearing marly layer, the Hippuritella castroi horizon (Fig. 2). The white lagoonal limestone is sharply divided by the intercalation of a fine-grained sandstone wedge, about 10 m thick, of the Aren Formation, which thickens westwards and rap- idly diminishes eastwards (Fig. 2). The lower part of the white lagoonal limestone pinches out westwards and dis- appears within the Aren Formation, while the upper part continues westwards capping the Aren Sandstone. A rich monospecific assemblage of eggshell fragments from the new ootaxon is concentrated on the reddish upper surface of the Aren sandstone wedge. The outcrop is affected by NNE–SSW directional faults.
