Gokase-cho, Miyazaki Prefecture, Gionyama Fm, Locality KL2 (Silurian to of Japan)

Where: Gokase, Japan (32.6° N, 131.2° E: paleocoordinates 32.6° N, 131.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Member (Gionyama Formation), Telychian to Telychian (438.5 - 425.6 Ma)

• Late Llandovery to Early Ludlow

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: slope or ramp reef; lithified, massive, conglomeratic limestone and lithified shale

• Limestone conglomerate intercalated with thin lenticular beds of tuffaceous shale and sandstone. The limestone conglomerate yields abundant corals with various other fossils, such as stromatoporoids, crinoids, bryozoans, and gastropods. Kido and Sugiyama (2007a) suggested that the limestone conglomerate of the Middle Member might have derived from shallow-water reehrl limestone, and was transported and deposited as the result of a debris flow or storm

•action on a reef slope or along a reef front.

• limestone conglomerate beds

Size class: mesofossils

Collection methods: Author has several papers from this area and locality, but each one describes a single component of the fauna.
