Mount Flora D.37.15 (Jurassic of Antarctica)

Where: Antarctica (63.4° S, 57.0° W: paleocoordinates 54.2° S, 29.4° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Flora Glacier Member (Mount Flora Formation), Bathonian (168.3 - 166.1 Ma)

• 25 feet below top of plant horizon. Radiometric dates of 167.1+/-1 from correlative unit at Botany Bay, 165.9+/-1.3 Ma at Tower Peak, and 162+/-1 Ma from overlying volcanics suggests Bathonian age (possibly early Callovian) (Hunter et al., 2005).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: pond; lithified, black shale

• Floodplain pond. Rifting of Antarctic peninsula to produce Weddell Sea basin.

Size class: macrofossils
