• The fossiliferous beds correspond to the El Morterito Formation (Turner, 1973), sequence II of the Playa del Zorro ‘‘alloformation’’ (Bossi et al., 1992, 1993; Esteban and Nasif, 1996). The upper part of this sequence (IIb and IIc subsequences) is correlated with the Andalhuala Formation in the Santa Mar ́ıa Valley, Catamarca Province (Bossi et al., 1993).
