• The Arnestad Formation overlies the nodular limestones of the Vollen Formation and is overlain by the nodular limestone dominated Frognerkilen Formation.

• The Arnestad Formation (Figs 2–5) is a bioturbated, dark grey, fissile, siliciclastic mudstone with intercalated, thin beds or nodular horizons of calcareous mudstone and wackestone.
