Haunsheim quarry (Miocene of Germany)

Where: Germany (48.6° N, 10.4° E: paleocoordinates 48.8° N, 8.7° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Burdigalian (20.4 - 16.0 Ma)

• Generally believed to be of Middle Ottnangian age; however, benthic foraminifera did not yield any stratigraphically significant taxa. During the transgression of the Molasse Sea, the limestone surface was initially intensely bored by pholadid bivalves. Subsequent deposition of Ottnangian transgressive sediments resulted in fissure fills that reach up to 15 m deep into the limestone.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; unlithified siliciclastic sediments

• Unlithified based on sieving method.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the BSP

Collection methods: peroxide, sieve
