Where: Douglas County, Kansas (38.9° N, 95.3° W: paleocoordinates 3.0° S, 28.3° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Lawrence Formation (Douglas Group), Kasimovian (307.0 - 303.7 Ma)
• "Lawrence? Shales". The specimen is preserved as part and counterpart in a siderite concretion and, on the back of the counterpart, someone (presumably the collector) carved the words "Oct. 12th 1884 I dug this f[rom] the coal." Based on our experience with upper Paleozoic strata of eastern Kansas, the specimen probably was collected from siderite concretions that occur in the shale immediately above the Williamsburg coal bed, near the top of the Lawrence Formation.
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: estuary or bay; lithified, concretionary, sideritic siliciclastic sediments
Size class: macrofossils
Collected in 1884; reposited in the YPM
