Environment/lithology:

• In 1975 'the free northwestern profile of the quarry stood at a height of about 10m, with the lowermost 3m composed of freshwater limestone, followed by 1m of reddish-brown sandy and loessy fossil soil, and finally 5-6m of compact freshwater limestone.'
• '1m of reddish-brown sandy and loessy fossil soil.'

• Approximately 1 metric ton of fossil soil was collected and washed, yielding 10 samples which have been combined in the faunal list. The fauna 'is unquestionably homogeneous because of its closure from below and above by freshwater limestone.'
