Where: New South Wales, Australia (35.0° S, 149.0° E: paleocoordinates 17.1° S, 173.8° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Cavan Formation (Murrumbidgee Group), Emsian (407.6 - 393.3 Ma)

• Conformably overlies Lower Devonian volcanics.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; calcareous sandstone and calcareous siltstone

• "The Cavan Fmn consists of supratidal to shallow subtidal sediments, chiefly limestones with some sandy beds, that were deposited in a series of minor transgressions and regressions across a broad, planar area."
• "Pelecypods at CB1...occur in a sandy unit of the Cavan Fmn...Although defined as a limestone, the pelecypod horizon contains minor carbonate and is better described as a fine-grained sandstone and siltstone...small-scale, low angle cross-bedding...may have resulted from tidal flow.."
