Horlick Formation lithofacies 2 (Devonian of Antarctica)

Where: Antarctica (84.8° S, 115.0° W: paleocoordinates 34.6° S, 175.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Horlick Formation, Early/Lower Devonian (419.2 - 393.3 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; burrowed, bioturbated sandstone and mudstone

• The marine lithofacies 1-8 are interpreted as "shallow inner shelf to shoreline, where storms produced a changing pattern of coarse sand bars and finer troughs." Lithofacies 2 interpreted as "middle shoreface on the sides of subtidal sand bars"
• "Coarse, poorly sorted quartzose or feldspathic sandstones, sometimes with a calcareous cement, and strongly bioturbated, with layers of Pleurothyrella shells; interbedded with thin mudstones; vertical and U-shaped burrows common"

Collection methods: Taxa are listed as Present, Abundant, Rare.
