Lake Patarcocha, Central Peru (Triassic of Peru)

Where: Peru (10.1° S, 76.4° W: paleocoordinates 19.8° S, 43.2° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: bidentata conodont zone, Chambara Formation (Pucara Group), Sevatian (212.0 - 205.6 Ma)

• Specimens cannot certainly be assigned to one of the species of Epigondolella bidentata group. Although the specimens are not examples of the central morphotype of E. bidentata, other platform features are suggestive of the E. bidentata population illustrated diagrammatically by Orchard (1983, fig. 14). This population is typical of the Lower bidentata Zone, which approximates the Late Norian Cordilleranus ammonoid zone.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified limestone

Size class: mesofossils

Collection methods: chemical

• Specimens illustrated by Maeda et al. (1984)
