Late Emsian/Eifelian Loc. 17 of Melo: Santo Inacio do Piaui region (Devonian to of Brazil)

Where: Piaui, Brazil (7.4° S, 42.0° W: paleocoordinates 81.1° S, 4.7° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Pimenteira Formation, Emsian to Emsian (407.6 - 387.7 Ma)

• Stratigraphy comments: Collection not explicitly said to come from Pimenteira Fmn., but this seems rather clear from stratigraphic and geographic context. "Although the age of the [Pimenteira Fm.] is probably restricted to the Middle Devonian along the eastern outcrop belt [of which this locality is a part] its full range is Emsian through Famennian in the subsurface of central portions of the basin."

• group-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; sandstone and siltstone

• See lithology description.
• "The Pimenteira Fm. records the first widespread Devonian transgression over the Parnaiba Basin and conformably overlies the Itaim Mbr. It consists of interlayered sandstones and siltstones/shales mostly deposited as offshore bars or shelf sediments under the influence of storm generated waves and currents ("tempestites"), as indicated by the widespread development of large scale hummocky cross stratification throughout the section."
