Late Emsian/Eifelian Loc. 25 of Melo: Maecuru River (Devonian of Brazil)

Where: Para, Brazil (2.0° S, 54.0° W: paleocoordinates 68.9° S, 29.4° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Alpenachitina eisenacki other zone, Lontra Member (Maecuru Formation), Eifelian (393.3 - 387.7 Ma)

• Member spans Emsian - Eifelian, but the dense beds of shelly fossils are from the top of the formation (Grahn 2005).

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; sandstone and bioturbated siltstone

• Deposition reflects deepening. See lithology description.
• "The Maecuru Fm. of Emsian/Eifelian age is composed by the Jatapu and Lontra members...Jatapu [consists of] bioturbated silty/shaly layers and argillaceous sandstones...Fluvial sandstones and conglomerates are the main constituents of the Lontra unit. However, locally on the N flank and throughout the subsurface the uppermost Lontra sediments are shallow marine "tempestites", i.e. hummocky cross-stratified sandstones containing the well known Devonian invertebrate fauna recorded by pioneer workers from outcrops of the Maecuru and Curua rivers."

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: cast
