Where: Omnogov Aimak, Mongolia (43.7° N, 100.9° E: paleocoordinates 40.8° N, 90.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Djadokhta Formation, Campanian (83.6 - 72.1 Ma)

• Age is not well constrained for the Djadokhta Formation (Clark et al. 2001). "Fossil vertebrate sites occur in the uppermost 65 m of a section..." see Fig. 1b, Dashzeveg et al. (1995).

Environment/lithology: eolian; fine-grained, coarse, red, silty sandstone and mudstone

• "Fossil vertebrate sites occur in the uppermost 65 m of a section dominated by red-orange, slightly silty, fine-to-coarse-grained sandstones with occasional beds of red-brown mudstones and grey-brown conglomerates (Fig. 1b)...The most fossiliferous sites are stratigraphically situated in a prominent cross-bedded unit of sandstone near the middle of the section." --Dashzeveg et al. 1995

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collected in 1992-1996

Collection methods: surface (float), surface (in situ),

Taxonomic list

• Over 100 recovered and uncollected articulated skeletons of theropod, ankylosaurian, and protoceratopsian dinosaurs form the main 4 sq km collecting area. Also skulls (many with associated skeletons) of over 400 mammals and lizards. These are just the specimen numbers they include, there are certainly more in number.
