Outcrop 2: fauna from upper Myslejovice FM flysch in the Mala Hana valley (Carboniferous of Czech Republic)

Where: Czech Republic (49.3° N, 17.0° E: paleocoordinates 8.4° S, 18.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Culm facies Member (Myslejovice Formation), Chadian (346.7 - 340.0 Ma)

• AGE: Placed in Chadian to avoid stratigraphic orphaning.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; argillaceous, sandy siltstone and claystone

• "Flyschoid sediments. In the fine rhythmical sequence, the coarser greywacke-siltstone component prevails over claystones. The beds are subhorizontal, the most fossiliferous layers are concentrated in the upper part of the outcrops.

•Fossiliferous layers mostly belong to the shale facies of a flysch character and pronounced rhythms of cm-order. The rhythms mostly show positive gradation: the base is usually represented by a fairly coarse greywacke component; the higher part consists of siltstones to pelites. Abundant organic remains are usually concentrated in thin dark organic rich laminae in the upper part of the sequence."
