La Serre D/C boundary section, Famennian part (Devonian of France)

Where: France (44.0° N, 4.5° E: paleocoordinates 21.8° S, 14.9° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Famennian (364.7 - 360.7 Ma)

• latest Famennian. Approx D/C boundary (praesulcata/sulcata boundary) between beds 88 and 89.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; limestone and shale

• Interpreted as shallow neritic facies.
• Famennian part of sequence at La Serre includes nodular limestone, oolite, calcilutite, shale. Tournaisian part consists of the same lithologies, as well as radiolarian chert (with phosphatic nodules) and marl with limestone nodules. Carbonate lithologies greatly predominate, but there are some fossils (esp. brachiopods) in the middle unit that is partly siliciclastic.
