Can Casablancas I (Miocene of Spain)

Also known as Cementerio de Sant Quirze, San Quirze

Where: Catalonia, Spain (41.6° N, 2.1° E: paleocoordinates 41.8° N, 1.2° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Vallesian (11.6 - 8.7 Ma)

• Lower Vallesian, "biozone 20a"

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithology not reported

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Szyndlar & Rage (1999) report a Vipera from "San Quirze" without specific assignment and without giving any further data, except of stratigraphy (MN 7 + 8). Since the present collection contains vertebrates from the Late Miocene (matching MN 7 + 8 quite well) of Sant Quirze, this snake is added to it, although it may come from elsewhere in that area (e.g. PBDB coll. no. 38976).
