NMVPL252 echinoderms, central Victoria (Devonian of Australia)

Where: Victoria, Australia (37.5° S, 145.2° E: paleocoordinates 10.5° S, 174.8° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Humevale Formation, Lochkovian (419.2 - 410.8 Ma)

• Was just Early Devonian.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; black siltstone

• "All the material is preserved in a fine black siltstone, from which all the carbonate has been removed during diagenesis. STudy of minute surface detail is possible on latex casts. In several narrow bands fossils lie on top of each other in great profusion, whereas the intervals between contain only scattered but generally better preserved forssils In the fossil trash bands most cavities are heavily stained with oxidised iron minerals, whereas the intervening bands are often rich in pyrite, usually in the matrix but rarely replacing fossils."
