Locality UQL2954, Shield Creek Fmn, N Queensland (Devonian to of Australia)

Also known as Carlinastraea fauna UQL2954

Where: Queensland, Australia (19.0° S, 145.0° E: paleocoordinates 2.9° N, 163.6° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Shield Creek Formation, Lochkovian to Lochkovian (419.2 - 407.6 Ma)

• Formation of Lochkovian/Pragian age. Collections from upper part, but not entirely clear from this statement whether they are Pragian. The Carlinastraea fauna spans both stages.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; sandstone and intraclastic, shelly/skeletal grainstone

• Some evidence in some collections that corals were rolled and transported.
• "The material is from...a number of limestone lenses outcropping on the E slopes of the quartzite ridge running N from 'Pandanus Creek' homestead...Stratigraphically, the lenses occur in the middle 50m of the Shield Creek Formation which in this area is c. 160m thick and predominantly of medium to coarse arkose with thin mudstone interbeds and thin, clean, very coarse quartz-arenite lenses. The limestone lenses consist predominantly of thickly bedded calcarenites and calcirudites composed mainly of fragments of algae, stromatoporoids, corals, brachiopods, crinoid debris and other shelly material, and intraclasts, all set in a fine micritic matrix.
