Environment/lithology: marine; calcareous shale

• "Monforte is 60m thick and consists of: 1)3.5m basal crinoid limestones; 2) about 2m marly shales with rich fauna; 3) 16m argillaceous shales poor in fauna; 4) 20m coarser shales, with 4 groups of marly shale beds full of brachiopods and individual thin sandstone or siltstone layers; 5) 12m of shales that end with a few centrimetric sandstone layers; 6) 7m of an alternation of shales and brachiopod marls and, in the top, 3 marly limestone beds (up to 25cm each) that can be traced 16km along strike."ff
